Description
Known as “thimniato” or “livanistiri” in Greek and as “kapnistirin” in the Cypriot dialect, the burning of the incense represents the prayers of the church or the faithful rising ,towards Heaven. Beyond its ecclesiastical use, in both Greece and Cyprus, they burn dried leaves of olive tree, frankincense and myrrh for house cleansing. A practice that exists since antiquity and is used to obtain God’s blessings to protect those they love.
“Kapnistirin” is part of the handmade beeswax candle collection by xronikon concept store. A figure-shaped candle collection, inspired by marble statues and ancient traditional treasures, that almost look like tamata (votive offerings). A well-known tradition in the Greek religion that finds its origins in ancient Greece.
All items are handmade and produced on the island of Cyprus.
Beeswax is a natural product therefore the color might differ from the photograph.
