Περιγραφή
Released in 1984, Sun Masks (Μάσκες Ηλίου) is Lena Platonos’ first fully released solo statement as a composer, lyricist, vocalist, and electronic musician, and a defining record in the development of Greek electronic music. Built around synthesizers and experimental electronic textures, the album combines sparse, hypnotic arrangements with Platonos’ distinctive deadpan delivery and surreal, associative lyrics, exploring themes of love, emotional distance, consumerism, and the alienation of everyday life. Platonos has described the album as a deliberate leap into unknown territory, drawing inspiration from the writing of Argentine author Julio Cortázar and the surreal imagery of Alan Parker’s The Wall. Tracks such as “Lego” and “Διάλειμμα το Σάββατο” reflect this dreamlike, fragmented approach, where images and ideas flow into one another rather than following conventional songwriting logic. Sun Masks marked a major step toward the radically electronic language she would further develop on Gallop (1985) and Lepidoptera (1986), forming what is now regarded as her landmark electronic trilogy.
