Me Too

Our goal is to revive the motifs of Greek folklore with a modern look and to integrate them into everyday life. Combining graphics, design and modern technology with traditional production methods, we wanted to implement this new vision. The creative team “cross the wall” was founded some time ago and is a collaboration of metoo graphic design studio (Aliki Kakoulidou / MA in Digital Arts, Athens School of Fine Arts and Dimitra Vasilakou / MA in Typographic Studies, London College of Communication, with several distinctions in the field of communication design) with Stella Sotiropoulou (architect engineer NTUA). We strongly believe in close collaboration between professionals of different fields that creates an “open source working system” and leads to an integrated design solution.

OBJECTS’ STORY The main inspiration behind our project «cross the wall / sarakatsani» is the nomadi tribe of sarakatsani. We pick details from their costumes and create simple monochrome compositions. Aesthetics aside, the main reason for choosing the art of the sarakatsani is the “magical” power that they attribute to their patterns, a power which turns these patterns into talismans for “good and beauty.” The sarakatsani embroider their symbols in such a manner so as to render them magical and protective – thus making them the dominant elements of their nomadic life. The sarakatsani patterns are simple archetypal designs, reminiscent of the geometric decoration of the Neolithic Era.
